January. I attended the annual  Winter Workshop organized by the Center for High Resolution Electron Microscopy, CSSS/ASU.

End of January. I go to the job-interview with Philips Electron Optics in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

The interview wnt fine and I felt  that they would make me an offer.

I stayed in Eindhoven for 3 days. A very good friend of mine (from my student years in MISiS, Moscow), Oleg Melikyan, visits me there!

January-February 1998. From Eindhoven I went directly to Moscow, stayed there for almost a month.

Being in Moscow, I received an offer from Philips Electron Optics which I eventually accepted.

End of February I went back to Tempe and after a little bit of thinking, accepted the offer from Philips. We were about to move to Holland!

April 1998. We go to Puerto Penasco, Mexico. Very nice place obn the shores of Sea of Cortez.

End of April. Alla's mother comes for a 2-week visit. This time we didn't do much together. Went to Las Vegas and this is about it.

May 1998. Our last trip to Mogollon Rim.

May 1998. My aunt, Ljuda, comes for a visit. Anna has a good-bye party. We go to Puerto Penasco again where I get stung by a stingray. Anna goes to Moscow. We are getting ready to move to Eindhoven in the first half of June.

June 1. Good-bye party.

June 3. Movers took all our stuff and shipped it to Eindhoven.

June 7. Good-bye Arizona!

Later June 7. We arrive in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
